Why are my ducklings so skittish?

So this crest will make them louder? Can the crest help tell if they are female or male? When I picked them up the ppl who gave them to me said they were a ‘variety’ breed and they were unsexed

No...The crest is a deformity. Won't make them louder. Being a Hen makes them louder.

Hey, could this be a
Muscovy duck? They said my ducklings were mixed varieties and I noticed a slight lime from its bill to its eye. What do you think? Sorry this is my first time with ducklings and I have so many questions!

Hello there, new duck Mamma!! You seem to be doing a great job with these babies. I would really suggest cleaning out their brooder and putting new bedding in though. Leaving it all wet and gross like that can lead to lots of problems such as bumble foot and bacterial growth. Their bedding should be changed and thoroughly cleaned out out one maybe even twice a day.
In regards to making them less skittish, I would suggest sitting in a small bathroom with your legs crossed and let them come to you. Have treats on deck so you can reward them every time they get closer to you. Never make super sudden movements as ducklings are skittish animals to begin with.
