Hope this is the right section to ask this.

Is it common for hens to be more standoffish than hens? 2 of my roosters will come up and ask to be held. 1 will actually snuggle up and make little cooing noises. The hens will tolerate petting but are just not keen on being held. All have been handled daily talked to played with and babied daily. They are about 8 weeks old.

mine got like that around 8 weeks as well, in fact I couldn't hold them period any more. they'd just run away and I couldn't catch them!!! everyone told me they'd come around when they started laying... they were right! I didnt think they would, but they did. they're back to sweet again!

I keep telling myself the hens will calm down when they get a bit older. I only plan to keep the one rooster. I hope he stays pretty mellow.

Dbl yes here. My girls wanted no part of me while we had a cockerel in the mix as he wanted and got all the attention. He had all the personality UNTIL he was rehomed, then our lovely ladies just blossomed and became happy and friendly.

When the egg squat hits they are even happier to be held.

I dunno why it is that way but it is. Had I known about this years ago, I would have raised roosters instead of my oldest kid.
