Why are our girls wandering?

When I go and let the chickens out in the morning. I usually have a few chores. I fill up the feeder, maybe the waterer and throw scratch on the floor. I Check one bird for health and I am gone.

During this time, my Wild game roo and his (now 4 hens) are down pass the house. This is a good hundred yards, a football field worth and beyond. Distance means nothing when a bold roo is involved.

I'd rather they never make it all the way to the pond. We have bobcats and coyotes that get their water at our pond and our only neighbor (about a 1/4 mile away in the opposite direction from the pond) is a commercial chicken farmer. There could be big trouble for her if someone from Tyson was at her chicken houses to deliver feed or whatever and my chickens came strolling up.
