Why are people being so mean?

I think this goes back to communication. With text, it can be taken the wrong way. We also have to take into account the different cultures, this is an international forum, what i might think is funny, someone else may not. This comes from experience as my partner is Swedish and I'm English!!!
If anyone out there is being mean, then remember you once were new to keeping chickens and it doesn't matter if you go on courses, read every book on chickens or your neighbour has hens; it will probably be different for you and different problems will arise.
Please help each other, regardless of how new or experienced you may be, you may need the help one day!

Remember that the internet cannot convey tone. It is necessary to have a thicker skin than in person. There are people ranging here from social butterflies with no intent to ever have chickens to vet techs, to famous breeders, to show winners, to diaper wearing pet owners to farmers with their livelihood in the soil and manure. Not everyone sees things the same way but it doesn't mean that their advice not valuable, even if it comes across in a way that you don't like.


As for age classifications, it simply won't happen. We feel that advertising a minor's age is risky.
Having unsupervised minors on the internet is bad enough. BYC will not add to that risk. We do not allow minors to post or advertise their ages. Period.

If a person is old enough to be on an internet forum then they are old enough to be treated as if they were.
