Why are people being so mean?

This, I personally think, is the greatest thing since DONUTS!

I was welcomed very nicley. One thing I would reccommend is posting in the newbie section, before you post in any other topics.

We have so many newbie's and we joke A LOT...maybe someone just misunderstood? I dunno, I try not to offend, but there are folks with strong opinions here including myself. If I offend anyone and I KNOW I did I usually go out of my way to apologize to them even if I don't agree with them on the particular subject. Not everyone is going to agree on a lot of the questions that are posted. A lot of people on here are kids too. One in particular used to offend me a bit until I realized they are a young person...then I got their sarcastic responses and thought they were kinda funny...little snot

Seriously, we want them back! The more the merrier!!!!!!!! You have to give BYC a week or two. Newbie questions generally get short to the point answers...especially if the title is something like "OMG my dog just ate 4 of my chickens and is still running around the yard with one in his mouth! What should I do?" in the EMERGENCY section. It often SOUNDS negative, but is not intended to be.

It probably isn't relevant to the OPs directives...but sometimes I think that it would be helpful to know the age group of members. Such as if they're pre-teens, teens, young adults, etc. We've all been through that "know it all" teenage phase, and I think sometimes it gets reflected here. But then again, some folks never outgrow that phase.

I think Newbie's should get the same kind of answers as everyone..... oops, better shut up!

But it would be more harsh if it were the same response as for someone I knew...because I am often sarcastic especially to the ones on here I know can take it. Newbie's get a watered down to the point version from me. Then it seems like they get offended sometimes

I was raised by the old rule:
If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything.

And I take it to yet another level:
If you can't say what you have to say in a nice way...then keep it to yourself.

And believe me...I can't tell you how many times I've started typing a response to a post and just decided it was best to keep my trap shut.

With a 50,000 member base, SOMEONE is always going to be rude, misunderstood, arrogant or stupid to SOMEONE else. There are social forums here, but there are also a TON of forums discussing chickens and other birds. If you are always in the social forums, of course it will seem like a social site to you.

The report button is your friend.....

that would be helpful~ We could do the ages in catagories! kids under 12 could be chicks, teens ~ 20 pullets or roos, and the rest of us could be Old birds!

The manner/tone and words we choose to speak are directly linked to the age of the person they're directed to. I honestly think that most folks here don't intend to sound rude or mean...but it comes across that way. If everyone would just step back, re-read the words they're about to post, and put themselves in the receiving end of their words... this thread probably wouldn't be necessary.
