Why are people so . Just..>ARGGRYR$^&%^TR*%^!!!!!

I have the same problem a lot of people play with them like they are toys, because a duck isn't a common animal to keep around your house. i hate that, the ducks are TERRIFIED when these people chase them around. You don't wanna be a jerk and have to chastise a child let alone an adult. I like taking mine for walks but I hate when people come out to see them, cause it only frightens them.

Exactly! and im around my ducks as much as possible, and can basically walk within a half a foot of them before they walk off, not wanting me to touch them, so im going to be extremely POed if they start getting scared of me.

Well I'm just thinking, maybe the little girl was just curious/intrigued by the ducks? Maybe she thought they were wild ducks on a public pond? City kids who aren't used to seeing ducks might be tempted to do that? Just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. Do you know for sure her intent was malicious?

I know how you feel, just a few weeks ago these guys were out infront of my neighbor's house and I asked them if they needed help.

They were obviously drunk and later I found out they were throwing beer bottles and trying to run over my rabbit that lives in my backyard.

who was out minding her own business.

You know Goat Walker, I have read a couple of your threads and I have to say I have agreed with you. I understand high school and HATED it when I was in. I am in college now and just this week I had to deal with a situation with immature people that can't seem to grow up.
Those girls messing with your ducks was wrong. That is your property and your ducks. They didn't seem to be in the way of anything and if the girls might have been concerned they were going to get in the road they could have told you as you said they could see you.

As to those kids at school...they had no right to do that and as I am a vegetarian and do NOT agree with being cruel or eating animals they would have heard an earful. This would have and does make me sooo angry. Getting in trouble for this would have been worth it and I wouldn't regret it. I do my own thing and don't get into trouble but when it comes down to animal care and welfare I am passionate and will say something. HE should have gotten in trouble though.

I would like to thank you for taking the time and feeling the need to say something about that in the first place.

Some people don't feel the same way we do and we have to make the difference where we can.

Also, I saw that you were in Central Alabama. Where in Central Alabama if you don't my asking? The reason I ask is because I live in Cullman, AL and don't know any one here that is a member of BYC.

I believe, but cannot prove, that a teenager who was visiting my neighbor STOLE 3 young chicks from my chicken tractor inside my fenced back yard one day while I was gone to work.
I never thought very highly of the said neighbors....
I never have thought very highly of teenagers either. (even when I was one, my mom swore I skipped from middle school to college in the maturity department)

I'm glad you don't let them out when you aren't there, but if you don't have a PADLOCK on your coop I suggest you get one.

Personally, I either LOCK my coop or free range them -- it might sound like one extreme or the other, but I figure an inexperienced chicken catcher is going to have a harder time catching free birds than defenseless caged birds
