Why are people so weird?

Since refrigerated eggs stay fresh for approzimately 4 months, when we have a build up I box them neatly and have my husband drop off at a church or Christian Help Center. I know the people they feed appreciate them and surely can get a lot of benefits from eating them.
I think the Bible says something like, They shall be worse in the end than the beginning. But it's like everyone I come in contact with is Possessed! I can't give eggs away, neighbors will not open there door but I can here them inside scurrying around hiding. My Sister took Dad around to his banks & had him withdrawal all money before he died. Stole $300,000 & I can't do a dam thing about it. I could go on & on.
Sadly, you're not alone. My father-in-law died, my husband's sister lived with him for awhile before his death, she had his accounts in her name, to help him in paying his bills of course, tusk! But, bless his heart, he sure loved our farm eggs!!

I generally only have an extra dozen or two every week. I have a friend with allergies and store eggs bother her so she gets most of my extra. I don't charge her but she asks each time. She returns my cartons with extras she gets from other folks who normally throw them away. Once in a while she'll drop a $5 in an empty carton for me. I appreciate it as organic feed is very expensive and it's a very courteous move. When I had a LOT of layers I used to offer them to people and they never offered to pay so I let them enjoy those supermarket eggs.

Why do people you know (friends/family) expect their eggs for FREE??

Maybe I'm the only one with the problem, but I've had several people (people who I do work business with, siblings) just want eggs for free. Don't even offer me any money. My fault for allowing it a couple times. I don't anymore - but WHY??

I had somebody just hand me a carton this morning wanting eggs. She didn't give me any $$, maybe (hopefully) she will have some when she comes back to get them.

Also, I ask clients to return my cartons, I even have a stamp inside that says "Please return carton", have I gotten any back? Nope. I have a family who buys 3 dozen a week and has 6 of my empty egg cartons. Next time she wants some, I will be reminding her I need those cartons back. Never would've thought I'd have any issues!

Okay, rant over :)
You have got to be kidding! But no, you are right. If someone gets something for free they expect the gravy train to keep rolling. The other thing to suggest is that they buy you a bag of dried mealworms, or some laying pellets to help out with the cost. Problem solved. lol Oh, help out with the cleaning of the coop/run. That will do it. As for the egg cartons, I don't know.

I feel your pain. We’ve stopped giving them away. It’s not like we expected money, but after years of free eggs, how about a bag of feed or a head of lettuce! Nada! I think we all start out being generous and end up with egg on our faces.

Of course people should be appreciative for eggs. But if you are selling eggs, you need to make that clear upfront by stating that your eggs can be purchased for __ amount.

When my new chickens start laying, I will be definitely be giving some away because there is no way I will be able to use all those eggs. People at the barn where I keep my horse bring lemons or other fruit that they have too much to use. But nobody expects to pay for excess garden produce which is offered free so it won't go to waste. Given your perspective, it will be much better for everybody to have a for sale sign on your eggs. Then nobody is disappointed or surprised.

Don't get too bent out of shape. It is a problem for everyone who sells a good or service. It used to be physicians, lawyers and accountants that would get bombarded at parties. Oh doctor, my back is just killing me. So that guy clipped the side of my car. Can I sue him? I got a call from the IRS and I was really confused. Get the drift. The latest victims are professional web designers. I know because before I retired I was the webmaster/chief honcho of all things Internet, WWW and intranet for a major California city. I am having a problem with my website. Can you look at it and tell me where I went wrong?

A cousin is a beekeeper. Can you imagine the number of requests for free honey? It wasn't so bad when I had a 4-H project with about 100 hens. We were out in the middle of nowhere up a dirt road. Everyone was in the same boat and we would trade my eggs for your milk sort of thing. Given your problem I would suggest the old "the cost of feed has gone up and I just can't afford to give them away. The only exception is I donate to charitable causes to help feed the poor and kids. Give me your 501(c)(3) number and the name of your group and I will be glad to donate some eggs." People just do not realize there is an expense to raising chickens as with any animal. Pity those who are asking just don't offer to barter for your eggs. I only have six hens, one rooster and a couple of ducks so having surplus chicken eggs for sale isn't a real problem for me. Good luck

All I really want is my cartons back! Or bring me your extra grocery store cartons that you throw away! My chickens are going to lay way more than I can ever use. I'm happy to share. BUT MY CARTONS! :he
Nope!! No carton. No eggs!! I have chickens because they bring me joy (eggs are cheap to buy). They make me laugh every single day. And that is priceless. We could never eat all the eggs we get and it makes US happy to give our eggs away. But they better bring me a dang carton!
