Why are raccoons allowed pets, but chickens not!!!!

In Colorado, we are constantly under warnings of BUBONIC PLAGUE in prarie dog colonies. The prairie dogs are constantly trapped and tested in the state and finding colonies with plague is not uncommon. While people don't often come into close contact with the prairie dogs, their pet dogs and cats do. These pets will vector the infected fleas right home to you. I see no reason why raccoons can't be infected as well.

Plague is still a problem worldwide. The news just had a report about a pneumonic plague outbreak (much worse than bubonic).
