I'm thinking it's to give more 'run-room' when it's fenced, but it also seems to be a security measure against predators.
Anyone else--am I close to being right?
That is what I always thought...also the underneath part can provide shade and a place out of the rain. I would think it would be easier to collect eggs just reaching in while upright than picking eggs on your knees if you werent going to have a people door.

More space for my birds and easier to clean and easier to collect eggs mine just roll right out into the box my husband is a handy guy to have around.....when it's windy my birds love to be "downstairs" they only go in the coop to lay they have another favorite roost outside they like unless it's really nasty so that helps keep everything cleaner too.
