Why are the guineas laying?

And my two three-year-old guinea hens are mysteriously laying all of the sudden, too. It's been raining like crazy and even hailing, cold and stormy and getting dark early, and yet all of the sudden I find guinea eggs here and there. Definitely guinea eggs--the only other birds I have in their run are ducks, and only one duck lays and her eggs are nothing like guinea eggs. I hadn't seen a single guinea egg in months and now here they are. I'm confused!

Oh well, whatever guineas!

Thats amazing.

I am glad mine don't lay this time of year, they are totally free ranged and i need a break from hunting guinea nest and hatching.

Okay, I have guineas but admittedly know little about them. Am I correct to assume that they normally don't lay in the winter? How long after raising a clutch do the hens start to lay again? I had two hens share a nest and raise 17 keets. Those babies are now six months old and I have not seen one guinea egg since those hatched. Not from the mothers and not from the offspring. I have at least eight females as I have heard that many "buckwheat" at the same time. Shouldn't the older ones have started laying before the cold weather got here (which wasn't til late November?) It's possible that the older ones hid a nest but the last nest they raised their batch from was in the flowerbed in my front yard and not well hidden. I let it stay because it was safer to be close to the house and the human activity than for it to be in the woods where the vermin are. Any insight will help me.... thanks!
