Hello everyone! I’ve had a silkie hen ever since she was 5 months old and She is currently 8 months old.
The problem is that she hasn’t laid a single egg up till now and neither has my mottled Cochin bantam who is also 8 months old.
Pls share any suggestions on how I can have them lay or why they arent

Thats a long time not to be laying, hope someone on here can give you some advice. The only reasons I can come up with are, moulting, illness, winter time but those are usually only temporary blips in their lives

I have some Bantams who are similar and someone suggested that they would probably start laying around February. My silkie started laying after she met my silkie cockerel Dixie. I have two cuckoos that just starting laying and are huge. x

They do lay without one. I already had my cockerel when I got my silkie hen so that's the only thing I can think of but they should still lay. Maybe it's the cold weather x

Weather plays a big part on chickens laying. They need a good 14 hours of daylight to lay... anything less and they probably won't. They could be starting to molt. They could be stressed still, from their move to you. I don't believe getting a rooster is suddenly going to dump a bunch of hormones into your chicken and get her to start laying.

Well I get that she might be molting because these days lots of feathers have “popping” on to her head but my BC has been laying just fine
