Yes, but she's not feeding them chick starter, she's feeding them scratch grains and kitchen scraps.

Sounds like the consensus is that it's not really a CX in the picture, so there's another reason it isn't growing into an enormous bowling ball chicken!

I'm aware of that but my comment was not directed at anyone in particular, just a comment that you don't have to have high protein to grow out a CX.

They did get chick starter until oh about two weeks ago. Still not very big.

I really think you have white leghorns! You could eat them if you really want to, but if you wait until they're 16-18 weeks and switch them to layer feed you'll probably get some lovely eggs!

We will wait and see. No one is big enough to eat and IF they lay then they will be safe from being eaten. They are very gentle birds what ever they are.

Could it be a slow Cornish broiler? there are different lines of broilers from slow growing to fast and then being fed scratch and scraps it isn't eating like it would in front of a feeder full of hi pro feed. If you feed a CX on a restricted diet like many people on here do for breeding projects then they will grow much slower and look alot more like a regular chicken. Then if its one of the slower growing lines then it def. would look and act like a regular chicken...the comb looks short so I don't think you have a leghorn,its quite possible you have a CX and if you have any roo's then you may want to breed her when she starts laying,you could have the beginning of your own broilers!

I ran out and got some laying pellets. I began the slow move over today. I assume changing feeds with chickens is like anything else start slow until they are moved over. They of course picked out the new stuff leaving the scratch. Then proceded to beg me for more the RIR's being the main beggers.
