Why aren't they eating bugs?

I have 6 chickens, around 8-9 weeks old, and 5 ducks, around 6 weeks old in a pen outside (temporarily together while the bigger separate pen is being built). They don't eat bugs at all. Are they not old enough? Did I just pick weird birds? The flies are driving me crazy outside and I was really hoping they'd start eating them.

mine don't eat flies last yr the flies got pretty bad I went to TSC they had these jars that were fly traps I put one in the coop and one in the run and had some fly paper hung....this yr so far all is well...but still early on....the jars worked amazing it would catch jars full!!

Chickens don't typically feast on flies. They eat grasshoppers, crickets, june bugs, june bug larvae, roaches, moths... but not really flies. If you want a fly eater, get muscovy ducks.

Thanks for the info. After I posted that I fed them some mealworms and they gobbled them up. Still thinking about getting some Muscovies.
