Why can't I get my shipped chicken eggs to hatch?!?!

Tori, you got it, friend! Let me know when you think you're getting close to time for wanting those eggs. Maybe I'll be able to send you more than I did last time since my Delilah is laying now.
Alaska, if you want some in the spring, let me know, too. Wonder what moose summer sausage tastes like.

Just as a note to all this... I am super pleased with the babies I have, and it has been a wonderful learning experience, if not a little sad. It's one thing to throw out eggs that never developed, but to have to say goodbye to babies that were only a day or two from hatching... it's rough on the heart. BUT... it makes the babies I DO have that much more precious, and let me tell you, they are spoiled little boogers!!

I love my birds, I even get attached to the bazillion quail, and I can only hope that people see that when they purchase my birds... I don't ever want to be thought of as someone who only cared about the bottom dollar and just wants to be rid of the birds. (I've gotten that feeling when picking up birds from others - no one here). I'm sure just about everyone here feels that way about their babies, too. Anyway, I haven't given up... just slowing down.

Thank you to everyone that has helped... you're all so awesome.

You bet I will... How about I put a reminder in my calendar for March 1st to talk to you again about it? It's still pretty cold here, but that will give us time to plan ahead.

OK... I'm going to go snuzzle Sapphire now...

Tori, you did well with the Blue Orps, actually. They are so susceptible to the rigors of shipping in the first place. They got to your place through whatever they seem to go through on the way to you, and you did manage to get one, which is one more than some have been able to hatch even down here with much less distance traveled. So, you got a cute little Suedelette! There will be more in your future, I just feel it.
I'll make a note for March myself so I wont forget!

That made me smile. I'd like a few more Suedelettes, please... but I'll be patient and do it right. (Making note in Outlook...)

UPDATE:
I am no longer the "One-chick-wonder"
woot.gif
... sorry Cyn... I just had (get this!) a NAKED NECK hatch out from a shipment of 12 "experiemental" eggs from a dear friend in Oklahoma. Three out of 12 went into the hatcher, waiting on one more.

HOWEVER... so far 4 out of 6 silkie eggs that were brought to me in checked baggage from Florida have hatched. All 6 developed, but one quit at about day 8.

So... I am seriously interested in talking to ANYONE THAT IS VISITING ALASKA ANYTIME SOON AND IS WILLING TO COURIER EGGS to please please please please please contact me? I'm looking for good solid breeding stock for any of the breeds listed in my signature line, and including BBS orpingtons.

Hey... it's a chick!

! It was a total surprise...hubby's not too happy about it

but I think it's cool. I hear they're neat birds, very friendly, so as long as it's not a roo, I'll be happy. If it's a roo, well, then, I WILL be sleeping in the chicken coop...
