Why can't I go to sleep?!?!?!?

Good morning! I think many of us have lives that resemble air traffic controllers. Unless we put the planes away for the night, even in our sleep we are tossing and turning trying to keep them safe, manageable. It is not an easy task to put issues to rest, I know. I try at night to give my troubles to the Lord and 5 minutes later am asking how He is doing with them.

For some the internet is the cure to a issue, BYC included; for many of the rest of us the power cord is a more suitable option.

Well boaz.....I sure hope my plane lands on-time tonight. I have been up since 7:30 a.m., hubby and I put up 12 8 to 10 ft pieces of tin on the chicken run, went to town to get some dinner, had the trunk or treat at our church, just got home at about 7:30 p.m......now I am nibbling on one of my kids popcorn balls LOL.....like thats gonna help me sleep.

Gonna try and take a hot shower and then get into bed.....I was out in the sprinkling rain all day and through the night, so I need this so I won't get the sniffles.

Warm milk, cantelope or peanut butter on a slice of toast...Those along with the other suggestions of decaf herbal teas, all help w/sleep.(Chamimole is the best) I feel so bad for those that have trouble falling asleep,DH gets upset because I can sleep regardless of whats on my mind or to do list etc,he will toss n turn.I put my thoughts/worries in a box(in my mind) hand it over to the Lord and basically say,"plez hold it or take care of it till morning" Say my prayers and night,,night.

I didn't sleep well for years...don't know about my brain stopping me from sleeping. I just tossed and turned all night. I used to have acid indigestion A LOT, and would have to chomp on Tums half the night. Somehow I discovered two different things quite by accident that have kept me sleeping deeply all night every night for a while now.. The first thing was eating an apple about 30 minutes before I go to bed - stopped my acid indigestion completely. The other thing is that I recently started taking a Vit. D tablet along with my nightly C and multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. I take all 3 pills at once with a glass of milk...sleep like a baby. As a matter of fact, I have to wait until I'm almost ready to climb between the sheets because if I do that too soon I can't stay awake. Don't know why that works - might not work for you, but it does for me. You could try it - hope you get the same results.

Some people just have trouble sleeping! However, there are some things you can do. The idea is to train your body and brain. Humans are creatures of habit! The following is a list of good sleep habits:
1. go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning.
2. sleep in the same bed every night .
3. use your bed for sleeping not reading, watching TV, computers, etc.
4. keep your bedroom temp. consistent, comfortable.
4.5. a darkened room is also helpful
5. some exercise everyday ( but not right before going to bed as that may stimulate you).
6. no large meals right before bed time (a small snack is ok if really needed, maybe milk, bananas, etc)
7. no caffeine after 3-4:00 pm (some say after noon, some say after 6:00 pm)
8. take clocks out of the room (clock watching is frustrating and anger will keep you awake: if an alarm clock is necessary then set it and turn it to face away from you)
8. schedule some "worry time". About 1/2-1 hour, before bedtime, review you past day and what you expect tomorrow. Cover everything. If there is something you forgot to do then do it now. Plan out solutions to problems that can't be dealt with now. When you go to bed and these worries crop up just remind yourself " I've done all that I can do and the rest I'll do later. I've already worried about these things and I WILL NOT worry anymore now".
I'm sure there are other things one can do and I'll post them as I remember them. Remember, The idea is to build consistent, good, sleep habits. You want your body and brain to automatically relax and go to sleep.

I can't sleep right now because roosters are crowing... they've been crowing non-stop since 4AM.

We thought we'd do some breeding and incubation... now I'm wondering if it's worth it.

The ducks are waking me up at about 4am, not even close to sunrise, daily now for about a week. I'm wondering if something is coming to visit at night, something scaring them and they are calling alarm to me.

I have lots of sleeping troubles whenever my brain has a problem to work out. Much of that is related to my job. After much despair and many failed home remedies, I finally saw a physician. If I go a day or two fighting sleep or waking up in the middle of the night, I use 5 mg of Ambien. It is easy to become dependent upon so I try to use it very sparingly. It is the last resort in my methods, but gives me sanity when lack of sleep messes with my systems.
I also use many of the methods peepdaddy described. Good rituals before bedtime are often the cure. Also, raising one's body temp with a bath or heating blanket can sometimes do the trick.

Well I can say that I got an extra hour of sleep last night since we had to turn the clocks bacl

But tonight will be a long night, I think.

See whenever I go to bed early.....like before 12 a.m......It's hard for me to get up in the mornings. But if I go to bed after midnight.....when my alarm goes off.....I get right up outta bed. I don't get it.....it should be the other way around.

My neighbor says I am going through the female change early and that it has my body in cahoots right now. Maybe so.....but if so be.....I sure hope it hurries up

O.K. gonna get off the computer and out of my sewing/craft room and try and get me some sleep.....but don't be surprised if you don't see me here (on BYC) not long from now.
