Hi there.. we have 2 baby chicks successfully hatched in incubator yesterday. It's been 24 hours and They are healthy. But another egg didn't hatch after 24 hrs although all 3 off the eggs had pipping at the same time. After the healthy chicks are moved to brooder I opened the 3rd egg and saw this painful situation.. seems like the poor chick was not developed properly yet it pecked a hole on the shell. Why this happens? How can the eggs be helped in future to avoid this situation? Thank you.

Beautiful chicks! Sorry about the one that didn't make it. I'm not sure how or why it would have pipped so soon as that one needed probably another 24 hours to absorb the yolk yet.

They can take 24 hours from pip to hatch, so if you're sure that one pipped 24 hours earlier, that's very odd. I've hatched thousands of eggs and never seen one pip earlier than it physically should. I've had some pip early and hatch, and I've had some hatch two or even three days late though.

At least you have two gorgeous chicks! ❤️
