Why chickens?

ah, have you tried separating her? I heard that it helps a lot with the more submissive hens that go broody.

That's what I plan to do next time. She's the sweetest hen I've got, so I want her to be a mommy. I have two other broodies at the moment; if I can I might poach one of their chicks when they hatch and see if I can give it to her.

How I ended up with chickens story:

A good friend of mine who was my neighbor and is also my hairdresser moved to the rural area because our neighborhood HOA gave them trouble about their 4 dobermans. She got this mega acre property with a horse stable so she decided she'll get a horse. So she got to be friends with some horse people and one of them have chickens. So she got into silkies. Then she found out she can put her silkie chickens in a chicken show. And she won several first place ribbons! So all these people started harassing her about buying her chickens. She realized she can sell her chicken eggs for good money which she can use to buy feed... and more chickens. A couple years later, she has different breeds of chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, goats, and even a donkey...

I hear all her stories while getting my hair done and one day she brought some silkies to the salon and I'm ooh-ing and ahhh-ing and so I took my kids on a field trip to her farm and my son ended up with a polish 3-day-old chick that had a broken leg in his pocket because my friend said the chick is probably gonna die because he won't be able to eat. Anyway, my son took care of the polish for 3 weeks before he died.

So then it was my husband and I's anniversary and my husband decided to give me this crazy gift... 3 baby silkies. And chicken math took over so now I have 10 chickens.
