why could a female duck be alone all summer?

Yes he is my buddy, I have an alarm set to check my cameras to see if he is outside, so I can go feed him and when the other ducks come try to punk him and steal his food I scare them away and stand guard so he can eat in peace….. I dont know what it is but my heart loves him so much. If I don’t see him, I go to the lake and look for him to make sure he is feed!!!!!! He is truly a great buddy he even has trusted me to let me pet him…. My kids even assist me with feeding him and standing guard to eat in peace!!!!!
