Why did all my baby ducks die after eating.

They were about 3 days old. Maybe one was about 7 days old. They ate and looked fine for a couple of minutes.

I came back about 15 minutes to check on them and one was dead. Then another was falling and kicking. Then a third one that started dying too. I thought maybe too much chlorine in the water, but I don't think that was the case.

I am not sure about the water...mine have been raised on filtered well water but I sure would be looking at that food closely and seriously. Maybe contact the manufacturer and see if there have been other complaints or the place where you bought it.

I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry. I agree with Cetawin, contact the manufacturer. But bad or moldy feed could be a possibility. You've stopped feeding it right? I hope you find your answer. Good luck.

Oh Lord, I had this SAME thing happen to me last year I believe it was. And nobody on here could ever help me either. My ducks had plenty of clean water, non medicated feed, and everything was like it was supposed to be. I bet I lost 50+ ducklings. They would eat, then fall backwards and twitch for a bit, then be dead. Even the ones that were half grown would die. I never did figure out what the problem was, but they finally just quit doing it. I never did do anything different.

Are you serious MandyH. It's really a creapy sight. We are concerned about getting any more ducks. Were yours crested by any chance?

Someone told me that sometimes they are so hungry they eat so fast or so much they can actually kill themselves, but I am not convinced that was the case.

It's almost like they had a little time bomb and it went off as soon as they ate!

I think maybe 2 were crested. They were all ducks that I had hatched here at home. I've been hatching chicks, ducks, peafowl, guineafowl, etc for years and NEVER have I ever had this problem, until last year. I still to this day have not figured out what it could have been. Just make sure they DO NOT EVER run out of water OR food.

I'll make sure MandyH. I hatched all of mine too. I might wait some time ( a lonnng time) before hatching anymore. This was not a good experience.
