Why did my always calm RIR rooster just attack me?

I feel really blessed, my big EE roo Romeo is such a sweetheart. He never tries to make a run at me, or the kids, and acts more like a big dog than anything most of the time when we're out there!

He knows the special treat cup by sight and no oneis more excited about chicken crack(milled scratch, not just corn) than he is!

I caught him yesterday because coop cleaning seems to be SUCH an occasion,(gee, it happens every other day) everyone has to come and supervise, and Romeo was up there checking out just what I was doing, so he got carried around just a while with me giving him hugs and kisses and chest rubs. He didn't mind THAT much, lol!

He takes such wonderful care of his girls at the same time, always finding food for them and then giving the food call, and he won't have a bite of it until they have some first.

I do love my roo!

I LOVE how obvious chicken enthusiasts have no problem "punting" their roos. I totally agree, btw! Without causing injury, those fancy boys need to know who rules the roost, and in my run, that's me!
