Why did my baby chick die

One of my hens hatched 7 chicks, but they have all died in the last 24 hours. They seemed fine. Five died during the night. I found them in a huddle in the coop. The other 2 were dead outside the coop when I got home today. It was cold last night (3 degrees). Is it likely they got too cold ?
Chicks huddle if there isn't enough heat. I am guessing that they got chilled.

Depending on how big your area is for them a 250 watt might be just fine. I use pine shaving for my chickens over 5 weeks, but for chicks I use straw. Make sure to either have medicated feed or buy some medicine powder and put it in the water. This is just to keep them healthy.

Thanks very much. That is what I guessed, but my husband is convinced something else happened and is blaming the hen for being a poor mother, but she looked after them beautifully for the first 10 days.

Sorry to hear that. I would assume cold killed them as it seems unlikely that all would die overnight after seeming healthy.
