Why did my chicken stop laying eggs?

Hi all. My chicken (Eggie) a 9 month old brown leghorn just stopped laying eggs one day. She hasn’t layed any since and I thought that she was just laying in the ditch. I kept her in today and no egg. I thought that she might be moulting but she’s not old enough yet. She’s perfectly fine and healthy. What should I do? What is the problem? Can you please help me? Any advice? Thank you

They can stop laying for a lot of reasons. It could be in response to stress (Have there been any predators around?), or in response to low daylight in the winter. Or, sometimes they just decide to take a break for a few weeks. She'll likely be fine.

Also, I wouldn't rule out "free laying" after just one day. Keep her cooped up for a couple more days to make sure? Mine are notorious for laying under the coop in the hardest to reach place, but keeping them inside 3 or 4 days breaks the habit.

You never know why a chicken stops laying. I have Lucille, an olive egger that stopped laying last year a month after she started to lay (about October). She finally started to lay again just two weeks ago. She stopped for the winter I guess! Just be patient I bet she starts again soon!

How long(how many days) had she been laying.....and how long since she laid?

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for a week or so can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. Fake eggs/golf balls in the nests can help 'show' them were to lay. They can be confined to coop and maybe run 24/7 for a few days to a week, provided you have adequate space and ventilation, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it. ..at least for a good while, then repeat as necessary.

I have 3 hybrids and 1 bantam and I only get 1 egg a day from on of the hybrids the other two were laying and stopped around 6 weeks ago. Thanks
