My pet chicken died last November. She was a 4 month old and an indoor chicken. She sometimes refused to eat her regular food and wood jump up and peck at me for celery.Eventually she got better, but then one afternoon she began limping. She tried to walk but couldn't.There wasn't anything on her foot though. The next day she was dead.Anyone know why?

Well, with very few clues, my guess is Mareks disease, which is very common. It can cause a huge range of symptoms, but general depression in activity and appetite, and dying relatively quickly from the time you notice anything can be from internal tumors that the disease can cause. The limp can be from nerve damage, and usually is in one leg, which sometimes causes paralysis. Look up Mareks or Range Paralysis. There is nothing you can do, except buy a vaccinated day-old chick next time. A 4 month old is right around the age when it can first show up. I felt horrible when I lost my first bird to Mareks, I was sure I did something wrong, but I have learned a lot since then. Sorry for your loss.
