Why did she lay a very small egg today?

Interesting. My ducks are doing this once in awhile too. I was kinda worried but now I can see where it may just be cycle changes. Birds are mysterious and so much fun.

Here we have 3 examples of extreme duck eggs and 1 normal (for ours) chicken egg.

Is there anyway to tell, with 10 hens, who is laying which egg? We get 3-7 eggs/day and am wondering if any of them aren't laying at all. . . .

An old timer told me to put different colored lipstick on their bums...

You try it and get back to me if it works!

ps don't put the lipstick back where you got it from...

Lol! Remember the "old days" when the Avon lady would come visit our moms and leave those teeny tiny lipsticks? Too bad they stopped that, those would be ideal :)

I read on one of these forums that you can use food coloring. Of course, there's not as many color choices, but it's a lot cheaper.

Food coloring? Why? Don't be worried magickbird. When you have new chickens they will lay small eggs and they get bigger and then they lay small eggs sometimes for about a week

That's what our eggs looked like when young chickens first start laying. Do you have some young pullets. Most of our chickens are new so we have had allot of eggs like that.

Just happens once in a while. That little egg probably has no yolk. Think of it as a cholesterol free egg. Make a fritata with it and it will be delicious.
