The frantic chicken crossed the road as a desperate last resort due to what was behind him. He knew he must flee to the land of free chickens to escape persecution from his owner's culinary practices. By crossing the dangerous highway, he took matters into his own talons; if he were to die by making this risky move, it would be the liberation of dying a free rooster that would justify his attempts.
So driven with determination, he did reach the other side of the road, but found it a wasteland of inhospitable circumstances. This time, there was nowhere to run.
