First off I don't know anything about geese so please forgive me. When I was a kid our neighbors had free range geese and they would run across the road flapping their wings all the way, poop on our doorstep and calmly stroll back to their home. We never hit them, chased them or anything, we love animals. It was strange. Why did they do it? Is it common?

Geese like to run and flap their wings. And they generally poop a lot. They probably just ran out of breath around your doorstep and pooped while turning around to go back home (and probably pooped a little more on their way home).

They do poop more when they're nervous, so maybe that's why the poop seemed concentrated on your doorstep, which was out of their territory.

They lack the sphincter muscle to hold the poop in, so they didn't do it to mark their territory. When a goose has got to go, a goose has got to go!

You know you might be onto something with the hose. Here's what kills me! They bypass so much to poo at the door we use! They hold it across a huge expanse of concrete (double driveway) and a sidewalk and another door (that we never use) about geez 25 feet. All of which they could poo on. There is no poop on any of it! They run to the door we use and poo by our most used door!

Why!?!

I honestly think pooping for them is like blinking for us. About as often, and not under conscious control.

And they poop more where they hang out more - if that's your doorstep, tuff.

Welcome to the world of geese, sucker!

Not only does he win, but I think he's right. The time I raised only three goslings inside, they spent a good bit of their adult lives standing outside the glass doors pooping on the porch -- wanting to be let inside, no doubt!
