Why did this happen?

Today was hatch day for my RR's. I was concerned at lockdown because I couldn't see any movement. Today I spoke with a man at the farm store and purchased a new digital thermo with humidity display. There was a little temp diff in my new and old gauges. The new one was reading under 100 and the old non-digital was at 101. My humidity was spot on. So I candeled two eggs and no movement. Went ahead and broke them open and there was no development at all. Candeled all others and the same thing. Most of them were very wattery and the yoke had came apart. Some were even gel like very thin gel....

Is there any reason for not developing other than infertile eggs. How low of a temp is too low?
I have 4 bantam eggs in there moving right along.

wow, i would think they would've HAD to have been infertile?! how many RIR eggs did you set? how many roosters and hens do you have? or were these shipped eggs?

29 and every single one looked the same when I cracked it open with the exception of a few of them were kinda thick like a 7-11 slushie. I candeled them but they had such dark shells I couldn't ever get a good view of what was going on. We get them from a family friend, they are kept in a coop with one rooster. He gets lots of eggs and gives us some to eat almost weekly. We wanted to increase our flock and thought this would be a good way. You know, we know where the eggs come from, know the hens are healthy etc. Usually when I cook one of his eggs I look for the "donut" to signify fertility. Id say two out of three are fertile. Of course I know it is possible that none of these were fertile, I find it hard to believe that ALL were infertile. I have 4 of my own bantam's eggs in the incubator right now. I watch Clyde with the girls so I KNOW what he is up to. wink wink. One of the eggs is at day 7 and i can see the heart beating. The other 3 are at day 12 and I can't so I am not as confident with them those 3 belong to our youngest hen and are the first she has ever laid.
I am dumbfounded....we have some more on the way I just want to make sure if I have made a mistake, that I don't repeat it. would not having the correct humidity or temp do this?

i'm dumbfounded too! wow! if your bantam eggs are doing fine, then i would venture to guess that it's not YOU and the way you incubate. and besides....NO growth from 29 eggs??? wow! is all i can think to say! i know for best fertility you should have about 1 roo to 10 hens. but like you said, not one grew, you would think SOME would have been fertile, even if only 2 for cryin out loud. anyone else here that can help? ideas?

i laughed at first, but hey, could happen huh? i mean there are infertile people.

LoL I bet y'all are shaking your heads at me and saying "DUH!", but I have opposition at home, saying it had to be something that either I did wrong or the incubator.

I know it has to be the Roo. But I'm exploring all options. I have a new batch to set tonight so I want to be sure it wasn't operator error. I appreciate the back up on the rooster though that is what I have been telling my dear sweet cowboy.

Ask the "opposition" why your banties are coming along just fine, if it was something you did... I hope you have better luck with your next batch.

That is the same exact thing that happened with my silkie chicks... sad but it just happens :( I am almost positive he was shooting blanks because everyday i saw him molesting my hens so i know they should have been fertile. I looked at his "area" and he had a bunch of silkied feathers blocking the shot lol hahahah.... then i cut the feathers that were in the way and after 3 weeks i tried hatching them again and all 16 hatched!

I think your friends roo has a couple of feathers in the way maybe. good luck and all i can say is dont get discouraged... TRY TO HATCH THEM AGAIN!
then give up lol

Best of Luck,
Colby T.
