Had them when I was young and loved them. Now at 48 my nest emptied of children, so filling it with ducks seemed like a fun idea. I also wanted fresh eggs, which is GREAT! They are entertaining and such a fun animal to share with friends, neighbor kids, etc. I get more company now ;-) OH, and I started a website about them and that has been really fun. Have made quite a few new friends across the world!

I've always wanted ducks...........I've never been able to look at one and not smile or laugh. I don't know, they've just always made me giggle, so I decided I needed some giggling around here. I had chickens before, but the ducks are more entertaining. I loved my chickies tho!

The chickies were a LOT easier to take care of tho. It's funny, when I first started reading up on ducks, all the books said how much easier they were than chickens........I think now they were referring strictly to pests, diseases and housing!

my husband and i had them when we where kids. i started talkin about chickens a little over a yr ago and since my hubby hates chickens i got the okay for ducks!
I LOVE MY DUCKS!!!!

I got my first 2 white runners just for fun. An entertaining conversation starter running around the yard with my chickens. 2 young drakes who were about to be culled, free for the taking, so they were my birthday present to myself. I was not interested in breeding, or eggs.

One of them was killed by a racoon so I got more, this time a pair. The original drake, who thought he was a chicken kept mating with the pullets. So I got another duck, this time a fawn. Then 3 more coloured ones. I sold the pair, so the errant drake then had 4 girls to himself. He does his bit with them but still goes for the pullets as well.

Now?

We were trying to help out a broody chicken. Obtained some duck eggs and the hatchlings were supposed to go to the neighbor for her pond. But darned if ONLY ONE of the little buggers hatched out. Voila! pet duck ... needed a friend or two ... now I'm hooked on hatching my own Runners and maybe taking one or two to the county fair at some point (becuase I went to several local county fairs last year in search of Runners and there wasn't a single Runner at any of them).

A friend showed up at my door one day, and said here! In this tiny box was the sweetest little duck I ever seen! I had hubby to run and get another one. I said this little baby can't be raised alone. He came back with 2! I just love them, since then I have added 3 more ducks! I tell people they are the best stress reducers ever! Watching them swim, or just be ducks and act goofy is so relaxing! I have chickens too, but I love my ducks more (DON'T TELL THE CHICKENS I SAID THAT)
