Why do Ameraucana eggs take so long and are so hard to hatch?

Anyone know? Am I doing something wrong? The humidity is high, high and they have pipped but it is taking forever to zip and break through the membrane. Every other chick (cochins, turkens) have hatched out and I am just waiting and waiting for the Ameraucanas!
Anyone else having this issue? Thank you to all who answer

I just hatched 6 BBS Ameraucana eggs. Yesterday was day 21. This is my first hatch ever, so I don't have anything to compare to but... The first egg pipped on the afternoon of day 20. It hatched 12-17 hours later (it was sitting in the bator waiting for me at 7am on day 21). 3 others pipped in the early morning hours of day 21. #5 pipped in the afternoon if day 21 and #6 pipped 12:30am on day 22. It took on average about 12 hours from pip to hatch for each chick. All 6 were out by this 8am this morning (day 22). Like I said, I don't have anything to compare to, but that's the experience I just had with Ameraucanas. My humidity ran mostly about 60-65%. With the lows touching 55% and the highs reaching 77%. And congrats on your hatch. I am very happy for you. And thanks for answering. I just feel so bad for them in there. It seems like it has been longer than 12 hours, but maybe not.

I have had them take a whole day to hatch. Just hang in there. As long as they are peeping contentedly and not screaming like they are stuck, I'd leave them be. My olive eggers seem like they take a long time too.

Ok, thanks for the pep talk because I was moments away from grabbing one out and opening it up.
Honest almost every one else (15 or so) have hatched but not the Americauna's and I know they were good.
This is going to be a long night.

I hate to have to ask this but first I guess I should ask, are these true Ameraucanas or EE's?

Having said that, I'm not sure one can make a generalization about hatching with regard to any breed.

I have hatched out more Ameraucanas than I could count right now and have had NO problems with them hatching at all.

In fact, my Ameraucanas seem to be stronger than the Welsummers and Barnevelders I've hatched this year and many of my hatching egg customers have told me they were surprised - even amazed - by how strong my Ameraucana chicks were compared to others that were hatching at same time.

Just FYI, I recently hatched out about 50 some Ameraucanas and Welsummers. I had two power outages, for about 2 hours each time, during the time the eggs were in my Sportsman. They were supposed to hatch last Saturday. Three Ameraucanas hatched on Friday night and no Welsummers. All of the Ameraucanas hatched on Saturday and most of the Welsummers but some of the Wellies didn't hatch until late Sunday night.

Finally, I never mess with the humidity. I keep it the same all the way from beginning to end.

I am experiencing this right now. 8 Rhode islands have hatched and are in brooder, now just waiting on the last two slowpoke Americucanas who are slowly picking away at that shell!
