I have 4 bantam silkies who are burying their eggs. I thought it was because they were taking baths a bit to aggressively but they seem to be doing it on purpose. Any ideas why? There was a mouse that ran out of there pen this morning would that have something to do with it?
THanks, Laurie

Broody, well I would mind if it was not 10 below zero... I have just about every egg that is attempting to freeze these days. Our hens (I know ALL hens) have a mind of their own, we had a couple who produced chicks right before the snow flew and we didn't even know they were sitting. They hid overhead in the barn! I discovered it when it was quiet one day and I heard a chick. Snow flew 2 or 3 weeks later. They youngest ones still look like little baby robins. They are really cute... Ameraucanas. Those bantam babies are so tiny I can't imagine them surviving in this cold. We already have a peacock with a frostbit foot in the living room I guess banties wont take up that much more room if they do end up hatching some. Aren't they just the cutest little things.
