why do chickens cluck loudly when they are laying an egg?

I have a Barred Rock that lays her egg, gets out of the box, goes outside, walks around and doesn't shut up for 20 minutes.

Mine join in a chorus. It's like one pops out of the coop screaming "Oh holy cr*p, that was awesome. I cannot believe the size of that thing." The others: "OMG yeah!" "I had one the other day, I thought it would never pass!" "I just laid mine in the yard!" "I totally think I'll eat mine today!"

Ours always go on and on AND ON afterwards.

DH says he is surprised that chickens as a species have lasted so long when they announce to EVERYONE (including predators) that they've laid an egg. You'd think it'd be an issue when eggs are necessary to comtinue the blood line.

The Egg Song! I heard it today when I was out for my walk, someone around the corner has hens (and a roo), I can't see the coop, but I could hear them all singing the Egg Song! Mine do it, too. They're just so excited - think about it, it's the most excitement they get all day, unless they also have to be paid attention to by the roo

I have a hen that does her bragging BEFORE. Then when she shuts up, it lakes her only 5 minutes or less in the hen house.

My two others tell the world about each egg afterward.

Robin'sBrood :

One of mine sometimes does it while the other hens are laying.

I have two that do that, all day long. They have either already laid, or are waiting. 22 acres, and they all want the same nest.
