Why Do Cuckoo Marans & Barred Rock chicks look the same?

Anyone know why? Just curious because I hatched a bunch of Cuckoo marans that look an awful lot like the BR chicks and just wondering how the heck does one know the difference?

The Marans is required to have white/grey skin/legs while the Barred Rocks, like all Rocks, must have yellow skin/legs.

With hatchery stock, the difference between them isn't all that apparent, as neither one is bred up to the Standard. Hope that helps.
