Why do I feel like there's something y'all are not tellng me:brahmas

Gritsar, maybe all these Brahma people are trying to hide the fact that, after Silkies, Brahmas are next in line to hynotize us with their evil powers and take over the world.

Yeah, go ahead, get Brahmas. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Brahmas and Cochins were my first chickens and still are my favorites standards. As a beginner I had no problems with either one. My Brahmas first started to lay at about 6 1/2 months and didn't stop until they started to molt. They lay a nice size light brown egg. They had no trouble in the 100 degree weather we had this past summer and do well in the cold also. Their feather feet have caused no problems even through my free range during the day. They are great birds. They mature slowly and are not full grow until about 18 months old. Mine are gentle, calm, friendly and quiet. I have both Dark and Light standard Brahmas.

Brahmas were one of my first breeds. they are an easy breed to care for, and they will win your heart over. They are just too sweet. i cant seem too find why they are a dual pourpose, i could never eat one of the little cuties.

I got my start with Light Brahmas from a gal over on the BYC EZboard site....I love them to death..they are a good hardy big breed bird and lay well in winter....Drove 5 hours to get a rooster to put with my flock....Going to get Buff Brahma hatching eggs this Spring....

We have several light brahmas. They arent agressive and are laying abat about the same rate as my buff orpingtons, RIR'S, and cochins. They are not at all hard to raise. My duaghter showed one at fair and placed pretty high with it. They are very classy birds

Oh and by the way Brahmas have feathered feet. This guy took 4th out of about 100 other birds in that catagory. That means that they are very popular.

I know I very rarly recommend one of the larger breeds to first timers, just because of space requirements (most people I speak to live in town). The standard Brahma is a pretty large bird.

Howdy Mark,
Yeah, that makes perfect sense to me. Fortunately we live on 80 acres and we each have our 'special spot' that we are free to do with what we want. My special spot is approx. 2 acres in size. I originally planned to turn it all into garden space, but then y'all got ahold of me and now it's gonna be part garden (veggie and flower) and part chicken area. Note: the amount that's gonna be garden is shrinking day by day

Here's a pic of my special spot:

The SO has his own special space down by the pond. Because of the chickens I chose one much closer to the house. The SO tells me that this chicken project of mine, as he refers to it, is going to be my baby and I can't expect any help whatsoever....good thing I know him better than that!

I have several brahmas and do not have any problems with them. I have some buffs, a white one, and a grayish colored one not sure what color they call those ones. They are very good sitters since all mine usually hatch out a bunch during the summer. They also can incubate more wink wink than a smaller chicken can lol.
