62B87285-F409-4592-A4B2-494FB9739B7D.jpeg i have 13 wonderful chickens. we feed them the best feed, they get outdoor time but also have a spacious coop. we have just hens, no roosters. they are a little over a year old. we got them as chicks and when they first started laying their feathers where beautiful. now and for months they have lost so many feathers, mainly on the base of their tail or their chest, the worst has lost a lot on her tail and her legs. i have no idea what this is from. maybe parasites? i’ve never seen them on them and they lay great eggs a lot. also we have one that as perfect feathers, every single one it seems. they are friendly and seem happy. also at first we thought it was a molt, but it’s almost june and they’ve been like this for months. none of them are broody. i’ll post pictures below. of course i love them no matter what, i just want to know why they have lost so many feathers. thank you.

Some bird/birds in the flock are feather pecking/plucking the others. Generally this problem starts in the winter when birds have less space and are confined to the coop. If there are any birds in the flock that are in perfect feather, they are the culprits.

Do you know any solutions to this possibly? Thank you.

If this is, indeed, the problem, Pin Less Peepers can be used on the birds doing the damage. Once feathers have regrown they can frequently be removed and the habit will be broken. Do an on site search on 'Pin Less Peepers' for more information.

will this work if some of them are perhaps self mutilating? i feel as if that may be it because i’ve never seen my perfect feathered girl be mean or dominant.
