Why do my chickens holler and scream so much?

Also, the son of the neighbor who I gave the eggs to just came over to play with my son. He said that his dad might want to get chickens now! LOL! I told him to tell his dad that I would never complain about the noise.

have three EEs. For the most part they are pretty quite However, when we have an unexpected guest, such as a neighbor's cat or possum my girls will alert me. Just the other morning my Dixie made the most annoying call early in the morning. I went out to check, but didn't see anything. In the meantime two of the girls snuck into the house and as I was trying to get them back out, Dixie started up again. There was no way I could ignore her ruckus. When I walked back outside, she walked to a tarp covered work bench. I slowly moved the tarp back with a broom, shoved it around but still couldn't see what the problem was until I got a better view and saw a rather large possum showing me it's teeth. Dixie still not letting up but keeping her distance remained vocal until she saw the possum leave the yard. I'm glad Dix didn't give up on alerting me.

I put an old baby monitor out in my coop..
oh my the sounds they make...
my favourites are the purring, the trilling ( one at a time then all together) I sure do know the " what the heck is that??!!!" alarm call...
and especially the soft chatter I hear as they get ready for bed...
I really want to put a web cam out there..so i can see and listen.
anyone try that yet...........i love the chicken cam sites..hahaha

I have several cams on my girls. One in the henhouse, 2 in their enclosed run and 2 on the more open run. I use Wyze cams because they’re relatively cheap and I love their customer service. My dad has access and will text me when he thinks something is awry- like if one is being mean to another.

Wow, what an old thread you found! Security cameras are pretty inexpensive. I bought my wife a couple of solar powered ones on Amazon for about $90 each. She has one in the coop and one in the run. They both switch to night vision when it gets dark and you can make the light come on which is really handy if you need to do anything in or around the coop at night. The light might scare a predator if you see/hear them in time.

As to the problem mentioned by the original poster 17 years ago, our chickens get noisy when they want something or they want to complain. Usually they are noisy when we go outside and they are in the run. Our chickens love to free range our backyard and do not appreciate being “Cooped Up”. This week my wife has been introducing our three, one year old chickens to our 4, 6 week old pullets. The older chickens complained all day until we moved the pullets back to the brooder. Yesterday they weren’t so noisy and I expect that the older girls will get used to the youngsters and we will have a relatively peaceful and quiet flock.

This exact morning I woke up, and was in the bathroom. I heard one of my hens scream exactly like the rubber chicken:

I couldn't believe my ears. She sounded like that.
And it was just a temper tantrum because she wanted to get out of the run.
