Why do people just show up your house?

I can't stand them either, partly because of the dogs, but also my general privacy...I also don't like the ones that pull into my driveway half way, enough to see the house (500ft).. sit there, and back out again. ...

... so I put up a gate by the road! And I have the whole front along the road planted with pines (20fters now), you have to take the drive to get to my house!!

I believe many people who have purchased something (chickens for example) think that since they made the arrangements to buy said chicken that was enough notice for you and those signs aren't actually for "them"..... Morons, the lot of them!

How about... " I have dogs, big hungry man eating, car scratching, child scaring dogs ... now would be the time to remember my phone number because honking the horn only eggs them on! "

We have a sign "Warning Security Dog", one on the gate to our deck and the other on the opposite side of the house on the pasture fencing... many have come to see the baby animals and laugh when they see the shepherd who is a raging baby (once he is done barking)... but fail to notice the cute white snapping snarling border collie who is going ape poop... he is the one to watch out for because everyone and everything on our property belings to him... if he doesn't know you, he will be a force to be reconned with!

No Trespassing signs are not very effective in my opinion. People have to understand what trespassing is. Most folks in my neck of the woods think trespassing is only when you are there to do something wrong. Dropping by is not considered trespassing to them.

And...why blare the horn. If you dont hear the dogs carrying on, you arent gonna hear the horn...

I'm glad you posted this because I'm the type that will just stop over thinking that person won't mind. I would NEVER mean to be rude but I guess maybe that is rude and I never thought about it. I don't mind at all when people just stop over and I just figure they wouldn't mind either but maybe I better rethink that! Thanks for the eye opener and from now on I will make a quick phone call.

Speaking of surprise guests... went to the school today appx 2 (usually don't go until 2:30) to have a conference with DDs teacher (All's well, right on target didn't miss a SINGLE question on her EOY reading!!)... then hung out until the bell rang and kids got out... why give up the good parking spot?

ANYWHO, we get home, appx 3:30 to find a gallon of milk, a bag of random bakery bread, and a bag of more bread, sugar, and cinn rolls on our dining room table.

Now, I'm guessing that it was my sister since inside was a flyer for a church food group thing... and she's the most likely to go to one of those... even though she gets tons of money in food stamps... but why would she go just to drop it at our house is a mystery as I'm notorious for my overstocked pantries.

Figured I'd check the caller ID, and I would see her number... you know the "Hey I'm en route with some stuff, are you home?" kind of call... but no, NOTHING. No call from anyone at all. So, that's kind of weird and creepy...

I mean, if you go with the thought counts thing then whoever it was is golden... but still, the thought of someone poking around IN MY HOUSE when we aren't home gives me the creeps... family or no.

That's what I get for forgetting to lock the back door I guess.

That is exactly why I don't sell from the house anymore. Like you said, after you sell once, they come back without warning to see what you have to sell. I guess I am too private.

Yea having people stoping by all the time can get annoying. What I really hate though is when people think you are a poultry McDonalds or something. Lady pulled in the other day and said she needed 3 guinea hens. Told her I had keets but no hens for sale. She said she didn't want chicks and turned in a huff and left. Couple of weeks earlier a couple of guys show up and want a pea hen. Told them I didn't have one for sale and one of the guys starts in "but we drove 40 miles to come over here!" Not my problem. I didn't have guinea or pea hens advertized anywhere but for some reason they thought they could just come over and order what they wanted.

We put up a gate and a fence so they can't drive around the gate. The sign on the gate says Beware of Dogs. It has worked like a charm! We also ran a bell down there although I don't mind if they blow the horn. If I don't want company, I act like I'm not home

This is a pet peeve of mine. We thought that by moving nine miles from the nearest town into the woods, down a 1/2 mile "driveway" behind a locked gate would insure privacy. NOT!!! Unfortunately, I am not a good housekeeper and I need several days notice before I have company.
