Why do people save your email addy then spam you with their just cause

Is it just lucky me or are they doing it to everybody? You know the emails with a bunch of people it the "to" line. Maybe I don't want to save the whales today or check out this govenment bill that maybe passed. I keep up on current events and know what is going on and thank you very much but I don't need, nor want you to remind me. Just because you emailed me last year or made a purchase and saved my email addy doesn't give you the OK to spam me. Besides I have much more important emails to read... my rich uncle in Africa just left me a ba-zillion dollars and I'm trying to figure out how to get it......... get it.

i just sweep and block as they come in now on my hotmail so easy and its cut my emails in half

Most of the spam emails go into my junk mail.

However a FEW would say nothing on the Re: line and I would delete them and they were upset at me for not accepting them for the club's membership. Well duh! If one would stop and think to put something like "membership or Welsummers" on the line, I would be certain to open it and grant the memberships.

Some of these message contain phishing links or links to nasty websites. There's a Canadian in a town near me who managed to get into some email accounts by guessing or stealing passwords and use them as his own to spam. He was also discovered to own a website that allowed spam links to porn and gambling sites, both of which are illegal here.

There seems to be no end to the nastiness of some folk today who are willing to prey on normal people who just want to keep in touch with others over the internet. I label them as sociopaths who get some pleasure from disrupting the lives of others.

my gmail got hacked once, and spammed everyone on my contact list without my concent
it wasn't my fault exactly, I have no idea how the security breech happened

I run regular spam/virus scans and rarely find anything at all on my computer.
Gmail did catch on that spam was happening, and froze my account until I came online and confirmed my ID and made a new password

I've since then made a 20+ character password that should be rather difficult to crack, and several of them for all of my frequently used accounts. I also do NOT save these fancy new passwords in my browser anymore.

Forums like BYC still have "cheap" passwords though, and saved in Firefox, so if something is up let me know LOL
