I am new to all of this and I am just curious why so many people on BYC place orders for 25+ chicks? I only ordered 6 and I am so excited about these new little pets joining our family. I couldn't possibly imagine having any more than that . Should I expect many of them to die? What do you do with all of those chickens? Eat them? Sell them? Or do you keep that many for egg sales? Do you keep all of them for A long time? Or are there lots of farmers on here that have the space and patience for so many? It just seems like a lot to me.

They love em, or they eat and love em, or sell em, or split orders

And now..my dh is about to put me out of the house with my chicken hatching..hhehehe

Not to worry about a large die off. These people have the space and adequate coop space. Beware your 6 chickens will soon be more as you get addicted. Word to the wise build your original coop with plenty of room for double the amount off chickens.

" some of us don't like our neighbors"

I keep thinking, my neighbors are so mad..they saw the coops go out.. And I have almost 4 acres and put them, literally at the side of my yard..but I did that because I wanted them closer to me, and where we all spend our time..

But boy I wonder what they are saying at those family dinners...
