Why do they do this?

Is there a reason they all did this? I had been in the run with them for about 10 minutes at this point. They've only been "out" in the run a few days (I got them at 5-7 weeks old, then had to finish the coop - they're 7-9 weeks now).

They might be gathering together for heat or dust bathing

mine have been in the coop for about two months now but they still bunch up together like that. They have a HUGE run and they all congregate together and it’s not cold

Hello! I have had chickens for a few years now! All chickens do this! its called sunbathing. It is the chicken version of going tanning! Nothing is wrong with hem, they just like soaking up the warm sun! We have a sunroom at my house and all the hens come up to the glass door and sunbathe and watch us LOL! Just the chicken enjoying the sun! sometimes you will see them lift up a wing, or close their eyes in pure enjoyment haha! i find it super cute lol
