Why do we have no eggs?

I can certainly keep those brats all locked up and hope for eggs!

I'm thinking a refreshing of the nest boxes too. What material makes your hens uber interested in one box over another?
We've had fake eggs in boxes forever. They kick them out or lay in boxes that don't have them. Tried replacing fake with duck, and my well meaning Mister decides suddenly to go collect eggs (every.stinking.time.)

I have checked the "who's laying" thread. It did not help me confirm one bit, I just have general ideas of which ones aren't laying.

I think it has to do more with the configuration of the nests than the bedding. Post some pics of your nests for some suggestions.

I also vote sneaky hidden nests. I would lock them up in the coop for 3 days and see what happens. Sometimes that's enough to change the habit.

I did a super thorough mite attack about 6 to 8 weeks ago.
Real good, real hard. Hens were instantly happier.
I'll give them a check over, but no other telltale signs screaming mites anymore.


I've never done a fecal.
I suppose one cannot eliminate that possibility.

Were there actually mites? Did you retreat once a week for 3-4 weeks? If there were mites and you did not continue the once a week treatment, there are still mites, or I should say that more have hatched and more are feeding on your birds and more are laying more eggs. You need to continue treatment to break the life cycle or they will return.

I'm so done with broodies this year.
I literally get one broke and another goes broody.
I get maybe three or four eggs before the cycle repeats.
Just a madhouse out there, no better way to put it an egg poor madhouse.

Funny, my broody who had some gnarly funky feathers when she started setting 2 months ago has grown some new ones replacing the funky feathers and is now laying again.

ditto. My girl's feathers were so bad I had made her a saddle, but before I got it on her she went broody, then raised a clutch and was left alone by the roo for c.2 months, and thanks to the regrowth, she doesn't need it now
