I was able to convince my parents to get some chicks as hens, they all have names and are kind of like pets. Then it wast bantams, definitely pets, and eventually a rooster so that we would never have to buy chicks again.
We got 3 bantams and 2 ended up dying(puppy got one and the cold took the other), so my btw roo was alone. My mom let me get three more; two are roos and so I have to get rid of them. I am hoping to get a btw hen so that I can do a kind of show and sell with the chicks.

I keep mine as pets, the eggs are a bonus. :p I love watching their silly antics in the day and snuggling with them in the evenings and night. That is why I chose Silkies as they make good pet birds as well as the fact that the hens act as incubators for any future eggs I may wish to hatch, as well as their own.

I have all dual purpose birds we got them to for the eggs and for meat purposes some of them however have been saved from the freezer my rooster is completely safe as well as 1 or 2 hens

I Love the fresh eggs, but I also enjoy just having them around. I don't know that I'd go quite as far as calling them pets, but they are certainly more than JUST for eggs. They are comical to watch, they eat the grass hoppers, which have been bad the last couple of years.

I love watching mine they just started going outside of the coop so they are getting a feel for being out in the yard

I don't have any chickens of my own, but I am fascinated by the idea of a pet that can produce an ingredient for tasty quiches. I'm also very curious if a good foraging breed can do anything about the ticks that are endemic in my neck of the woods.
