Why does a hen go in and out of the hen house repeatedly?

Yes, she lays eggs but during that 2 hours I watched her go in and out repeatedly, she didn't lay an egg.

My girls are deafeningly noisy too! They whine, and complain, and cackle, and growl, and scream out the egg song at about 120 decibels allllllll morning long! It’s funny - gives me quite the headache while I’m outside, but funny nonetheless.
