Why does BackYardHerds site look so much cooler?

It'd be cool if we had various color schemes you could choose from...

Why? It looks better then plain,drab blue.

Remember, our look has to give stumblers a good first impression, get lurkers to sign up, give newbies a warm welcome, and please the old goats. Also, the "Background" feature would give you options on your own post background.​

The signatures I'm understanding. I'm on high speed and someone had a signature of nothing but running smileys and it slowed me down. I feel for dial up users.
