Hi! My plymouth rock has been laying eggs now for about a month and a half. It has been 3 days now where she lays an egg in the morning with the other hen and then around 7-8 in the evening lays an egg on the back porch that is
400
half formed? She acts very distrested after laying it and lays on the ground with her wings out and is limp when i come to pick her up to separate her from the other hen. I then try to give her some sweet treats like watermelon but she refuses so i set her in the coop for the night and theres a new egg in the morning! Here is a kind of blurry picture of her "half-baked" egg. What is going on?

Also her egg that we get in the morning is completely normal and actually has a very hard shell

Your hen is a new layer and as such sometimes the plumbing needs a little time to adjust its rhythm. As it's revving into production routine there are a few hiccups. I have a new layer that does two eggs at once, one hard(ish) shell and one an egg sac with a colored membrane shell. Then it'll be no egg, then a normal egg two days later, then another bout of double eggs.

Picture that young chickens are like teenage girls with raging hormones that strike at anytime.... In time all will be calm, but in the meantime it's a daily adventure.

(No offense to any teenagers meant, btw. Just that sometimes there's a bit of unexpectedness to how the emotions go.)
