Why does my chicken lay brown and white eggs?

Hello,

I just had the strangest thing happen. I have 6 hens, all are confined so no one gets out and nothing gets in. All of my hens lay brown eggs, well over the last week two white eggs have appeared. I'm assuming its from my speckled sussex since they are the shape of hers and she has spots on her eggs and these two white eggs have little light brown spots. Does anyone know why this would happen? I can't find an answer and want to make sure she is not sick or anything. She is acting fine.

thank you!

The brown pigment is the last layer applied. If you are getting white eggs it's because the egg was laid before it was finished. Much like a soft shelled egg, but further along in the process.

Guess we just need to stay with them ,pulling eggs from under them, and just keep getting more eggs, heck maybe we could get a dozen a day.

If a hen does lay two eggs a day, 2nd one wasn't ready ,next day she wouldn't lay because both eggs were layed the day before.

Lot could depend when eggs are gather, yes could lay a egg every 22 hr.

Look like a good prank to pull on a chicken owner. place a store bought egg in the nest every day....know my sons would thinks thats funny.

Back to egg colours - my girls have alway laid brown eggs and the last two days "Tiny" has laid white eggs..... reading a few posts do you think they will taste different??

same thing with my factory hen she is a mystery breed and lays brown then white then off pink then light pink then brown lol she is extermly weird and i have a light/speckeld sussex that goes thru the same cycle

Ok I have read posts and I want to get this straight. I have a barred rock that is 7months old. She has been laying eggs since August. They have all been light brown and consistent in size and color until a few days ago. They are cream colored. All things in her diet have been the same. Nothing has changed. I guess she is just special.
