Why does my chicken lay brown and white eggs?

I have one laying an egg that is medium brown at one end and light brown at the other end.
I'm not sure if it is the RIR or the BR x WR.

It takes 26 to 32 hours for a chicken to lay an egg from the time it laid the last one. You must have something else laying. Chickens only lay one egg a day.

I agree, you have two birds laying. What else do you have in your flock?

op sais in first post she only has ONE hen

I have 1 (one, singular) hen that lays white eggs. From time to time she will lay 2 white eggs in one day. I will show her your post, I am sure that she would like the extra time to do something else besides sit in the nest box.

Not sure if this is the "problem" but when I was a new chicken owner, I thought I had ALL roosters for a while, because I didn't know that hens also grew combs and wattles.

Yah, really, that's what I thought. I was freaked out that all my chicks bought as "pullets" had turned into roosters! In reality, only one turned out to be a rooster.

So, perhaps, the OP has a hen instead of a rooster???? Just a thought, based on my own early experience.

2 eggs a day? the battery hens that live in a teeny tiny cage dont even lay 2 a day. If they did, those companies would be making much more $$$. And if they could create a chicken like that, people would be buying those more than the RIR's or Leghorns, or those hens that are among the best layers. I do not believe a chicken can lay two eggs a day. Set up a video camera and I would believe it....

If the OP is new to chickens, they may have an older hen, not realizing that hens grow combs and wattles too, as mentioned above. I'm sorry, but you're not going to have a single hen lay both a brown AND a white egg every day, it just isn't happening.

The OP also says that the rooster is in a separate pen from the hen. So if the rooster is really a hen and laying the other egg, it must be sneaking over to the other pen to do it!

Sneaky Chicken!!!

its not that its laying 2 different colors its that the second egg laid usualy doesnt get as much pigment as the first egg, its probably like when a hen lays a double yoker but both yoks , 2 eggs get released but encased in the same shell, with a hen laying two eggs its just 2 being released but one slightly behind the other , hence its not enclosed in the same shell its just ferther behind in the process , it would posibly be an ovary defect causing multiple eggs to be released, however in the pigment process not enough pigment would be present to pigment 2 eggs. hence my friends rir that ocationaly lay 2 eggs the 2nd is much lighter then the first but also smaller as well

Sorry haven't been back to post for a while! Yes, she is my only hen and no, my rhode island red rooster is huge and crows a lot so I know he isn't laying eggs and is in another pen. I am new to chickens but have a friend who raises chickens for a living and she wants mine! LOL! Today she laid only one egg which could be it has been cloudy and rainy here all day (don't really know if that affects chickens but I didn't feel like doing anything) LOL! Yesterday she laid two and the day before she layed two. I am a stay at home mom and a dog trainer so I check her every day a couple of times a day. I had an older person tell me an old folks tale and don't know if it matters but they said that if a hen lays at noon, you can take the egg when she is sitting and she will lay another. That is what I did with her as she always lays around noon and I reach under her and grab that one and she will lay another. She hasn't done it every day but does it more days then she doesn't. I didn't think it was a big deal since I don't know much about chickens until I was telling my friend about it. If I can figure out how to upload a picture, I will put a picture of her on here for ya'll.
