My hen is 7 months old, not sick seemingly, no puffiness, very hyper and acts like your usual bantam hen. She's a serama half breed. I checked and searched about related topics to sweetcorn smell and it shows about sourcrop. I emptied my hen's crop and do a garlic remedy. Still sweet corn after that period. Does chicken has certain smell in them? My other bantam smells a little sweet and oily.

Should I be alarmed? It's been a long while since we purchased her and she's walking normalish chicken.

I don't understand performing treatments on a chicken that looks and acts completely healthy. If she actually had sour crop, the crop would be squishy and the chicken would act like she didn't feel good.

Chickens tend to smell sweet and malty because of what they eat. It's only their cecal droppings that smell bad and give the impression that chickens are stinky creatures.

So the bird is otherwise acting completely normal and healthy... and from your description showing absolutely no symptoms of sour crop.... but just has a new smell (or newly noticed by you) and you decided to take drastic and potentially dangerous action?

I took a look at your other thread, your introduction, made at the beginning of February and you mentioned that you came here because you were searching for your birds cure. Was that this bird? Or have you had other suspected health issues with your birds that you have been trying to treat? If it was this bird what specific symptoms were you noting then that led you to search out things that led you to this group?

To me, it is amazing how well different people can smell. My wife has a very delicate nose, can pick up the faintest of odors and distinguish between them very well. I'm an old hard-ankle and a smell needs to hit with a 2 bye heavy between the eyes before I notice. I suspect you are a bit sensitive to smell.

When you notice something it is a good idea to check it out. This forum is a fairly good place to do that, several of us are willing to talk you through it and try to get to the bottom of it.

There are other symptoms of sour crop other than just smell. The crop is squishy and does not empty overnight. They usually do not act right. I'm not sure if she exhibited any of those symptoms. Sweet corn does have a strong smell but I would not consider it sour.

Without knowing any other symptoms and with her acting naturally I'd just put it down to differences in chickens. I'd assume the smell was consistent over a time period and not related to the last place she took a dust bath? Things like that. I'd observe but not worry about it unless I saw something else.
