Why does my rooster circle around me?

My rooster recently started to circle around me everytime I let my chickens out the coop to free roam. Sometimes he does a dance and after a couple circles he walks way. Why does he do his?

Could just be his way of greeting you, or he could be showing dominance. Generally they dance for a hen they are trying to impress. As long as there's no other signs of aggression I would assume it's just a greeting.

He's trying to herd you. It's normal. He thinks you are one of his tribe which is also common. If I've understood what he's doing correctly then it's friendly and harmless.

On the other hand he could be looking for an opening to put a hit on you, it's been done to me a few times over the years. It's an animal and the wheels can come off at any time, Just keep a wary eye on 'em. I take nothing for granted when it comes to roosters no matter how "sweet" they are. Just being the Devil's advocate, that's all.
