I concede y’all. Everyone is correct. (Wasn’t getting email notifications on this thread for some reason.) We had a chicken expert over on the 4th, and he strongly felt this one is in fact a hermaphrodite, somewhere in that range. No eggs yet, but the squatting may be a sign she actually might!
Also, she is 34 weeks, not 20. I definitely won’t cull her, she’s close to a pet now. The main danger with putting her back in the flock, (it’s true organic doesn’t matter if she’s not producing) but these hens are notorious for attacking any newcomer, even if she was a former member of the flock, she’s been out too long.
It’s very possible this has happened before, but with 38,000 free ranging hens, it’s not possible to see each one individually. We culled a white Hyline rooster that we easily picked out the day these birds arrived, but we have also found several brown roos that slipped through in our past Isa flocks too.
And finally, I happened to find an actual rooster (with obvious saddle feathers, and crowing nonstop) in my flock yesterday, and I can clearly see the difference between him and this chicken in question. I brought him up to the house, and believe it or not, Hermie chased him off and I haven’t seen him since. I planned to take a picture of him, but until he comes back around I’ll be waiting.
