Why does no one have what I want....

I am currently looking for a hatchery that I can get some winter chicks to raise.

Of course no one seems to have what I want, or I am just looking in the wrong places. I want a few turkens, a polish or two and some more brown egg layers ( not real picky on type). No one seems to have turkens right now. Maybe I am just lacking on knowing more than a few hatcheries... Yeah that could be it.

But darn it I want to get some more hens grown up for spring time... Grrrr..

Wrong time of year for a number of breeds. Some breeders don't produce for the market between now and the spring.

Yeah, wrong time of year for hatcheries.

I would check with breeders here on BYC that live near your area and see if they've got what you're looking for.

if you want turckens and polish go to www.meyerhatchery.com but you will have to wait for warmer weather.

Your options are:
1. Wait until January or February to order - most hatcheries will be taking orders and some will be shipping chicks then.
2. Post a wanted ad in the Farm section on Craigslist for your local area - some folks will be selling some of their flock to downsize for winter.
3. Order some eggs for hatching. This is the most risky, but it's an option.

I checked meyers but they are currently out until January. Which I know is not too far away but when I get in the moood to do something. I am normally impatient.

THey do have some of the others I want I was just hoping to get them all at once.



I don;t have an incubator just yet so no hatching eggs for me. I currently have a broody but not sure if she is will to stay a few more weeks to hatch me some more eggs I am not sure how long hatching eggs are good for and do not want to risk getting hatching eggs.

Try Healthychicksandmore.com. I got all 11 chicks from them just last week and I live in WI. My new ones are, RIR, BO,BR,BA,ARA,GLW, LB,CR,SLW. All standards for me this time. They are very healthy and vibrant still.
